Fashion

1. I’m pear-shaped
2. I heard white accentuates your problem areas (see #1)
3. I don’t like to wear shorts
4. I can’t wear them after Labor Day
5. I once saw a salesgirl at BR whose white linen shorts were, umm, hmm, kinda, sorta, transparent?!
6. I tend to spill food on myself
7. I have a fear of sitting in something not-white
8. I am currently unsatisfied with the amount of jiggle in my Jello (see #1 & #2)

Those are all the rational reasons I could come up with.

But I’m pregnant, irrational, and it’s 90 degrees and HOT here in TX!

A good bargain has a way of making this girl throw out her “rule” book and go for it! Plus they were super comfy on the belly :) Baby likes. Momma likes the $5.99 price tag!

I had heels on instead of flats, and my legs looked not bad! … but who am I kidding?! I have an almost-2-yr-old, I’m hot, and usually tired… so kinda unrealistic that I would wear heels, but flats, yes!

Oh, and here’s the belly at 16 weeks! 1/2 human, 1/2 food baby… I’ve had a lot of Ramen and Kraft mac n’ cheese! Don’t judge, baby’s palate is still underdeveloped at 16 weeks ;-)

I will never be the one to complain about warm weather and sunshine!

Except for this little instance :)

This is our expected forecast for the next 10 days!

Again not really complaining!

Except that I have some awesome winter thrifting finds that will now have to wait until the fall, heck, probably until next January to be worn :(

But before they are boxed away and forgotten, here’s a look at some of my favorite winter finds of the year!

A plum corduroy, little-house-on-the-prarie dress. Fits like a glove… but it might need to be a little shorter, and the sleeves might need to be shortened too.

A cute classic gray wool skirt. So versatile! But the thought of wearing wool in 80 degree weather makes me nauseous… soo hot..

And for my favorite find of the year! A cape! Never thought I would want one, until I tried this on. So classy, so throwback, makes me want to call everyone “dahlin'”.

Here’s a close-up of the beautiful tailoring

and the back, sooo pretty :)

We have now had 12+ hours of non-stop rain and thunderstorms. It’s dark, dreary and wet outside.
The perfect antidote: bright, happy thrifted clothes :)

Remember when I bought these for my sister’s birthday?

Well I am sad embarrassed to say that I am just now (1 month late) sending them to her… (sorry Nomers!)

I went ahead and tried them on… just to give her an idea of what I did with them.

Can’t wait to see how she wears them!

BEFORE: (house slippers and compression stockings?! yes indeed, you now know my deepest, darkest secret :)

AFTER:
I hemmed the skirt, ripped off the collar and used grey bias tape in its place.

too old-timey schoolmarm for you?

Get rid of the bun, grab some modern accessories, your highest chunkiest heels and roll up those sleeves!
Voila! Modern SchoolMarm!

Decent enough to wear to church or to instruct young minds, but still hip enough to hang out with and not embarrass your 20-something friends

BEFORE:
I rarely buy pink, but the pattern was so lovely!

Kept it simple, letting the shirt shine!

and since this one’s for the birds, aren’t these cute? they came in a 3 pk for $4.99 at Target!

Happy Birthday Nomers!! I hope you enjoy them!! Love you!

There it was, on pg 15 of the March 2012 Jcrew catalog, an outfit I already owned!

Well, not really, but I happened to have copycats of all the pieces.

I love that about a great catalog – maybe you won’t purchase anything from it, but it might inspire you to do something different with what you already own.

And I would have never put these pieces together!

Here is the inspiration:

Aaaand, here is what I had! Did I mention the cardigan IS JCrew? and I found it at a consignment store! with the tags still on! yay!

What is that you say?
It’s not a true comparison without a side-by-side shot?
You asked for it!

No no,

not me,

my jeans!

After seeing a couple of great tutorials online from Cotton & Curls and Cut Out and Keep, I too decided that  my bootcut jeans should become skinny.

I bought this particular pair of jeans from the Junior’s section at Nordstrom Rack about um… 8 years ago?

Never worn them..

Why? eh, they needed to be hemmed, and I kept putting it off… then I gained weight…  then I lost weight and forgot about them..

I came across them a few weeks ago when I cleaned out my closet.

It was time to make those jeans wearable!

First I took a BEFORE pic, baby wanted in on the fun too :)

Then I laid the pants on the floor, and laid a pair of skinny jeans on top of them.

I traced out the skinny jeans, leaving about 1/2 inch seam allowance.

I sewed on the line..  they looked cruddy :( they were all bunchy at the knee area..

So… I removed the stitches.

I tried the jeans on and noticed that they didn’t need any taking-in along the thigh area (shocker).

So instead of just taking them in on one side, I started at the knee, and took them in a little on each side, gradually tapering toward the ankle.

Before cutting off any access fabric, I tried them on.

One leg done, one leg to go. But I like it!

I hemmed them, and they were ready to go. I don’t like my skinnnys to bunch around the ankle when I wear flats, so I hemmed them quite a bit.

Here’s the final look!
What is that you say?  They’re kinda tight?  yeah, I know… skinny jeans are ALOT more easily attained than skinny thighs…. just saying..

After my last blog entry, one would think that I would be “down” with the art of mixing patterns…

I thought so too…

Until I saw Prada’s Resort 2012 collection…

esp this one…  (she looks a little scared too, doesn’t she?)

Wowzers!

I guess you CAN mix lipstick print + crazy 60’s floral + beret + slinky sandal + denim purse + tan cardigan…

But SHOULD you?!!??

No.

Last night my husband and I had a funny little exchange about Valentine’s Day…

He basically said the way I can show him love is by putting out doing manual labor! around the house..

wah, wah, wah…

and he didn’t mean routine cleaning… he was referring to something we are in the process of hiring a skilled professional for…

but I know what he really meant…

If I did the labor, it would save money, a substantial amount of money!

and there is nothing sexier to this man than a frugal woman!

While I will NOT be shoveling any concrete today, I will do my best to be his most frugal valentine!

I will make him dinner…(frugal)

and make him a card… (frugal)

and wear this 100% thrifted outfit (frugal and fun)

xoxo

This is what if looked like at the store…

…and this is what I came up with!
